Finding value in the small things

Something someone gave you

Did you see what I did there? I posted 2 gratitude challenges at the same time (gratitude to my sister for week 4 )so no one would realise I was yet again late with my weekly gratitude posts. I could blame work and not having any time but we have 24 hours in a day over 7 days.

That is 168 hours in a week and I would (weekly)

  • Work on average 40 hours,

  • Travel time (to and from work as I do not really have a social life) 10 hours,

  • Sleep (as of late) 46 hours,

  • Gym for 6 hours

So 168 – 40 – 10 – 46 – 6 = 66 hours week that I am not taking full responsibility of. Average that over the week that is just under 9½ hours a day I am wasting. Pretty scary when you do the math and notice how much more you could be doing.

Anyway let’s get to the point; this week we are paying gratitude something someone gave me!

I sit here on my broken and legless futon, laptop resting on my toes as I count down the hours for the Mega moon mix. On this day, 31st of January 2018, a rare convergence of three celestial events – a super moon, a blue moon and a full lunar eclipse. This means the second full moon of the calendar month (a blue moon) will be at its closest point to the Earth, appearing bigger and brighter (a super moon) and will be fully eclipsing as it passes directly behind the Earth (blood moon). Apparently an event that Australia hasn’t seen for over 30 years!!

Now that you have been educated on what’s the g.o. for tonight, I need to think of what “something” is going to be. I look around my apartment and see a lot but when I think of where it came most of it is from me- from working my ass off or splurging when I shouldn’t have. A two things really stood out to me the most-

  1. A portrait my Oma painted in water colour for my birthday

  2. All my crystals gifted to me from mum

So I am going to be cheeky and pay gratitude to those two things!

MY PORTRAIT:

For my 25th Oma painted her first ever portrait. When I opened the gift I was not sure what to expect besides the fact it felt like a photo frame but what was inside the photo frame was a mystery. I have always been in awe of my Oma’s artistic ability of painting what she has seen or from memory. I guess she would be grateful to have a talented dad (for memory) for the inspiration and guidance to build on her skills. From what I know her family have always been artistic and their skills have painted some of the cathedral ceilings in Europe.

When I ripped open the paper of my present I was shocked at first to see me! I have never had a professional portrait done before and I wasn’t sure what to think of at first other than amazed at talent and how well she did it from an old picture. I could tell instantly that this was a picture from my earlier days as a teen or very early 20’s. As her first ever water colour portrait she did an amazing job and have the privilege to see her progress through her other portraits of my younger brother and sisters, her grandchildren. It may not appear realistic but the effort that went into it creates realism, well it does in my eyes. She has asked kindly for a more current image of myself but not sure which one to send in which is natural and not a selfie but I am sure she will find one, or myself, to paint.

Thanks Oma for the beautiful watercolour portrait! As I cannot having anything on the wall, I have it resting on a shelf right next to my TV. Part of me feels like Dorian Gray now, where I will never age or get sick but that is all make believe.

Now for my CRYSTALS;

My mum has always for as long as I have known her been in love with crystals, ruins, tarot and anything along those lines. Love isn’t probably the right word to use, more like passionate border lining obsessed but obsessed in a good and natural way. When I went up there for Christmas last year I stayed in her room and to be honest I was rather nervous as I know the power crystals offer and her room is literally head to toe in crystals. Well let me tell you, I had very vivid dreams that night but slept really well and more refreshed in the morning.

Over the years I have collected a few that mum has gifted or sent down. I finally have set up what you could call an altar dedicated to my crystals and other items that hold close value to me. I have a variety of crystals but not as big as my mums collection. I do have favourites but it does change depending on how I feel. If you are unaware each crystal holds different meanings and ways to heal situation and emotions and are used also for chakras.

For example, taken from Crystal Earth Spirit website:

One of my favourites is my Amethyst arrow head that I wear in my macramé that my mum made me. Funny story about that; I took it to Thailand as a joke to see if I could get through the scanners and I did but I think it amused me more than anything. I would need to connect it to an arrow, then make a bow for it to do any damage!

Another favourite is my Tiger’s eye. This crystal is mesmerising as it doesn’t matter how many times I look at it I feel it is always a different colour of brown and copper, depending on the angle and lighting. Tiger’s eye offers a variety of uses and purposes depending on the situation but it is my go to crystal. Tiger’s eye is known to bring in luck, good fortune and a steady flow of money- like all things in life, it doesn’t happen straight away but since I have given it light and freedom to shine, I do honestly feel better and luckier. Occasionally I will sleep with it when I feel a pull, like a desire to sleep and to let tension leave. When I do so I wake up feeling revitalised, a boost in power, my energy and emotional stability are back on track and I can feel I can tackle anything that comes my way.

I guess being a Virgo which attached to being an Earth Sign would be a strong cause as to why I am so attached to my Tigers eye as it too is associated with being an Earth Element.

I do have other crystals and stones that have value to me but those are the ones that mean more to me as mum bought them for me to help, guide and resolve problems and issues at the time.

An overall of this week:

This week started off terrible! On Monday I was meant to start work at 8:30am BUT no I slept in! I woke up at 9:30 after snoozing all of my alarms, freaked out and basically rushed straight to my car and guess what?! It wouldn’t start! I left the inside car light on and the battery went flat. This caused a small breakdown in me and couldn’t help but curl up and cry a little before getting to my senses to fix my mistake or consider taking an Uber to work.

Tuesday was a typical day at work, ladies day and a never ending order for sandwiches but I owned it like a boss and they seemed quite content even though the weather was not in their favour.

Wednesday was a crazy day at work, out of the 8 hours I worked I spent majority of it behind the coffee machine! I think I was getting high off the coffee fumes, if that is even possible but no coffee came back and if it did it was empty and a compliment was traded for my hard work. The Trifecta moon was on this night and was lucky to watch it from midnight on a quilt and blanket out where the stars shine bright and no clouds paid a visit.

Thursday- Zombie day! 11 hours work on 1 hour sleep is not ideal and one becomes delirious fast! However did fall asleep early that night after work for once and managed to get in 12 well deserved hours of sleep!

Friday: Adventure day out to Hanging Rock! This is one of my all-time favourite places to visit in Victoria. Had Subway afterwards but wished I got one before and ate it up there but overall I won’t complain as I have craved a sub for weeks! This day was also the first time I ever went to the drive in’s and let me tell you I am in love with the concept and am kicking myself for never doing it before!

It is only Saturday, no plans today might head to the gym and visit the fam bam but I am going to relax after such a busy and exciting week before I start my new work week tomorrow.

Well looks like this week is nearly come to an end so stay tuned for next week’s post- the city you live in.
