Does Heaven exist... on Earth?

It is the question that has baffled the human race since the dawn of time: "Does Heaven exist?"

The answer varies from one individual to the next; it can come down to their faith, beliefs and ideas on life. But I am not here to get into the nitty gritty, I am here to tell you that YES it does exist and NO it isn't the shape of a doughnut (but Heaven wouldn’t be heaven without a doughnut right?!). You may hear me say “if I was to pass away right now I hope this is what heaven was like”, I only say this as I (not sure about you though) do not find a lot of places these days where I can centre myself, relax with the bird and bees and be guided by mother nature- become zen.

If you know this feeling I am talking about, don’t stop there I am going to share this little slice of heaven with you.

After an eventful night and minimal sleep, I decided once I woke up at 5am (yes shocking, as I adore my sleep especially on my days off) this morning to make the most of it and (literally) bounced out of bed, put on some active wear and headed straight out the door with no plan and direction. Walking to the car, an inner voice was screaming WILSON PROM at me and like that it was sorted, I have never been before but at least I had direction and knew I would find something when I got there. What a way to feel alive- not knowing where you going to end up, what you are going to see along the way and the experiences you may feel.

For those who are not familiar with Wilsons Prom, I will give you a quick rundown. Wilsons Promontory National Park otherwise known as Wilson Prom or “The Prom” is a 50,000 hectare reserve with an abundance of fauna, wildlife and walking tracks for all fitness levels with views to drain any camera battery. Not too far from Melbourne, it only take 3 hours to drive through blissful country sides and small towns. Want to stay for more than a day? They have got you covered, offering a variety of accommodation options to suit those who like to camp under canvas or those who like the contemporary approach. For more information click here

Sooo with little to know about where I was going, I entered Wilsons Prom on the trusty Google Maps and went for it. One stop to fuel up both the car and myself, I made way singing and all to Wilsons Prom. Was rather excited when I passed through the (pearly) gates of Wilsons Prom and down the curvy road to the first opportunity. After a while there was a turn for Darby Beach, I slammed (slowly) on the breaks and decided this is a good start. There is a toilet available here but it is one of those freaky ones, like the one when you used to go for long drives with family through Australia and the only toilet available was the one you feared you would fall into.

Only a short 1.1 km from the parking lot I was already in awe and was not going to rush any of it. Now I am not sure about you but when you go for a walk near or on the beach you look at the other footprints made and wonder who made them? Well I have never done Scouts but I have watched UP! and enough criminal investigation shows to be able to spot a track and which way it goes and you would never guess what I saw… I saw a Wallaby.

The walk to the beach and along the beach was peaceful, it was just me, the waves and wind howling soft tunes. It was a pleasant way to unwind my body, mind & spirit. If it was not for the weather I may have popped in for a quick dip. I walked from one end to the other and spent a good 2.5 hours there before heading further down the road to Tidal River center hub. The info center and Canteen/ Store are open daily which is great as my tummy was rumbling for a bacon and egg sandwich.

Once devoured, I found a map and scenic route options at the Info Center. I didn’t exactly use it, as I saw a sign for a beach and decided I will do that one and see where it gets me. Little did I know it was a 3hr return trip to Oberon Bay. Well I won’t spoil too much for you or else you will never discover this little slice of Heaven on Earth… all I can tell you is that a Wombat waddled alongside me, I trekked up and down picturesque hills, listened to the birds sing and found Little Oberon Bay. The place that defines what a Bay should be: white squeaky sand and clear turquoise waters.

Pictures do not do itself justice and is a place worth visiting anytime of the year.

Note to self: ensure to take water when taking random walks and not knowing how long it will be.

Where is your slice of heaven? If you are brave enough to share it.
